Now is a great time to start planning for the summer. Graduate Summer school deadlines are fast approaching so make sure you don’t miss out and the fantastic chance to use the months of July and August to gain a qualification which could set you apart from other graduates.

What is a Graduate Summer School?

Universities around the world run 6 week intensive courses over the summer months, whilst full time students are taking a break. These often prepare graduates for Masters Degrees and MBAs. By having gained a summer school qualification your credentials when apply for Masters and MBAs are massively enhanced. Some Summer school courses are described as ‘pre MBA boot camps’ or ‘pre Masters courses’. Summer schools also enable you to ‘get your toes wet’, in a manner of speaking and make an accurate decision about whether to embark upon a Masters or MBA which could last a one or two years. The last thing you would want to do is take a postgraduate course that and find out that it wasn't quite what you were expecting. Summer schools enable you to find out more before making such a big decision.

If you are a graduate who would like to gain some experience studying abroad then summer schools can offer you the opportunity to do this over a short period of time. Your CV will of course benefit massively by showing that you have undertaken a Summer school abroad and the length of the courses means that you will not have to spend too long away from home. Universities and colleges will also often offer their own student accommodation or halls of residence for you to stay in whilst the full time students are away. Which makes sorting out where to stay etc, very easy.

As another plus, socially you will be mixing with other graduates from all over the world with similar interests and which is an ideal environment to make great contacts and friends.

Options from schools and institutions across the globe have diverse focuses, lengths and styles. So make sure you put in the research before deciding which Summer school to choose.
